3 Days, 3 Ways Joe Lombardo Dodges Accountability: Sky-High Grocery Bills Edition
While Joe Lombardo refuses to debate Attorney General Aaron Ford, NV Dems is launching a new series to highlight some of the many ways he’s dodged accountability for his cost-of-living crisis. On the third and final day, we’re calling out Joe Lombardo for jacking up grocery bills and ripping food assistance from tens of thousands of Nevadans.
Under Lombardo’s failed leadership, Nevadans are paying nearly $2,000 more per year than the national average for groceries. Instead of offering some relief for struggling families, Lombardo blocked students’ access to guaranteed school meals and suggested that feeding our children is a waste of money while supporting Trump’s cuts to SNAP benefits. Since Lombardo has been governor, there are now nearly 400,000 Nevadans who aren’t sure where their next meal will come from.
“The Lombardo-Trump economy is forcing Nevada families to pick between filling up their gas tanks and putting food on the table,” said Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Kate Sosland. “On Lombardo’s watch, Nevadans are paying more for groceries than almost anywhere else in the country and he’d rather cave to Trump than do anything about it.”
Here’s the latest examples of Joe Lombardo making it harder for Nevada families to put food on the table:
- Said Nevadans should be “excited” about Trump’s budget bill that made the largest cuts to SNAP in history, gutting food assistance for tens of thousands of Nevadans
- Vetoed guaranteed school meals, forcing the Washoe County School District to drain a six-figure savings account to cover the cost all while parents have been pummeled with over $200,000+ in school lunch debt
- Embraces Trump’s war with Iran and tariffs that are also hiking up grocery costs
- Jetted to Washington, DC for a $5,000-a-plate fundraiser to beg for Trump’s endorsement when 500,000 Nevadans lost SNAP benefits due to Trump’s government shut down
