Iran Shuts Airspace Again to International Transit Flights

(MENAFN) Iran's airspace in the central and western regions has been closed again to international transit flights, just five days after it was reopened, the Iranian government announced on Wednesday.

The move comes after the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran conducted a security and safety evaluation, emphasizing the country’s immediate concerns. Majid Akhavan, spokesperson for the Iranian Roads and Urban Development Ministry, confirmed that the suspension of both domestic and international flights to and from airports in Iran's northern, southern, and western regions has been extended until 14:00 local time (1030 GMT) on Thursday.

However, the eastern airspace, which was reopened on June 29 to both domestic and international flights, will remain open, Akhavan confirmed.

This airspace closure follows Iran's decision on Saturday to reopen its central and western regions to international flights. Iran had originally shut its airspace on June 13 after Israeli airstrikes targeted Tehran and other areas. Following 12 days of aerial conflict, a ceasefire was brokered between the two nations on June 24.
