Fresh news on politics and government in Iran

Trump’s government pauses military aid to Ukraine

(MENAFN) The Trump administration has paused portions of military assistance to Ukraine following an internal review of the United States’ own weapons reserves, according to confirmations from the White House and Pentagon on Tuesday.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly explained the decision as one made to prioritize America’s interests after assessing the nation’s military support provided to other countries worldwide.

Reports from various U.S. media outlets indicated that concerns about critically low stockpiles prompted the move. Last month, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a review of the country’s munitions inventory, taking into account years of aid sent to Ukraine, recent attacks on Yemen’s Houthi rebels, and tensions involving Iran.

The review found that some previously pledged weapons had dangerously low reserves.

Elbridge Colby, the Pentagon’s undersecretary for policy, stated that the Defense Department remains committed to offering the president strong options for continuing military aid to Ukraine, aligning with the goal of ending the conflict.

At the same time, Colby emphasized that the department is carefully adjusting its strategy to balance supporting Ukraine with maintaining the readiness of U.S. forces for other defense priorities.
